The BENEDICT CORPORATION is a GMC TRUCK, PONTIAC, CADILLAC, & SUBARU dealer offering new and used vehicles as well as service, parts, collision repair and detail service. We are located on the corner of East River Road and State Route 23E in Norwich. The 26,000 square foot dealership facility encompasses a modern, 12-bay service and repair area supported by an all new body shop, six bay detail center and complete parts department. Our spacious, well-lit show room holds up to six new cars and trucks for display, a customer lounge area and sales office. A separate building houses Benedict's used car office and display lot. Opened in 1990, the Benedict's Corporation is the most modern dealership within a 100 mile radius of Chenango County.
The Benedict Corporation is owned and operated by Noel deCordova III, known as "Trip". Trip began his tenure at Benedict's in 1980 and became involved in all phases of the business, except mechanical. He began in the Clean-up Department, moved into the Service and Parts Departments and after five years in the fixed operations of the dealership, moved into Sales and Advertising. Trip became Sales Manager and gradually assumed more and more management responsibilities from his uncle, Peter deCordova, who was dealer from 1971 to 1994. At that time, the Corporation was located in Center City, Norwich where the municipal parking lot is today. Under the guidance of his uncle, Trip initiated and managed the construction of the present Pontiac Plaza facility.
In designing the facility, serious attention was paid to employee safety, environmental concerns and customer satisfaction.
Trip became dealer and principal owner of the Benedict Corporation in 1995, and is the dealership's third generation owner/operator. Trip's grandfather, Carl E. Fribley, owned and operated Benedict's from 1932 until his death in 1969. Peter came on board in 1971. All three owners depended heavily upon the late Nelson Benedict, who was vice president of the company from 1933 until 1976 when he retired.
John N. Benedict from Sherburne began the Benedict Corporation in 1905. Originally known as the J.N. Benedict Corporation, the dealership also had offices in Sherburne and Binghamton and featured Cadillac and Reo franchises, as well as sold Frigidaire appliances. Until the late 1960s, the dealership served as a Cadillac distributor supplying the cars to Oneonta and Cooperstown dealers.
